Troubleshoot DNS, verification, and HTTPS

No DNS records appear in Stovefront

Do not guess the records. Stovefront must first connect the hostname to its domain provider. Retry in a few minutes. If the page reports an authorization or provider error, contact Stovefront support before changing DNS.

Waiting for DNS

Check the exact hostname first. Root domains, www, and other subdomains use separate records. When a root domain is connected, Stovefront displays the records for both the root and its automatic www redirect.

Compare every Name, Type, and Value against the records shown by Stovefront. Remove old A, AAAA, CNAME, forwarding, or proxy records only when they conflict with the hostname being connected.

When Stovefront lists a conflicting record, remove that exact Type, Name, and Value at the DNS provider. A registrar forwarding record may appear as an A record even if it was created in a separate forwarding screen.

Keep MX, SPF, DKIM, and unrelated TXT records so existing email continues to work.

DNS updates can take a few minutes or several hours. Public DNS checkers may show the new record before every network has refreshed.

The existing website stopped working

If the business intended to keep its existing website, confirm that it connected a subdomain such as order.example.com, not the root example.com. Only the DNS record for the chosen subdomain should change.

Storefront unavailable

If the hostname reaches Stovefront but displays Storefront unavailable:

  1. Confirm the domain status is Connected.
  2. Confirm the storefront is Published, not Draft or Paused.
  3. Open the address in a private browser window to avoid a cached response.

HTTPS is not ready

HTTPS certificates are issued automatically after DNS points to Stovefront. Certificate provisioning can lag behind the DNS update. Wait and retry after the domain status changes to Connected.

Do not use registrar URL forwarding for the automatic www address. Use the CNAME displayed in Admin → Website → Domain so Stovefront can provide the HTTPS certificate and redirect.

Never share registrar passwords, verification codes, or account recovery credentials with support.
