Connect Stripe and receive card payments
Kitchen owners can connect their own Stripe account from Operations → Getting Paid. When the account is ready, customers can pay by card through Stripe Checkout. The charge belongs to your Stripe account, Stripe sends payouts to your bank, and Stovefront does not take a fee from food sales.
Connect your account
- Sign in as the kitchen owner.
- Open Operations, then select Getting Paid.
- In Online payments → Get paid with Stripe, select Start secure setup on Stripe.
- Complete Stripe's secure setup page with the requested business, identity, bank, and tax details.
- Stripe returns you to Stovefront automatically. If the status is still updating, select Refresh status.
Only the kitchen owner can start or manage this connection. Enter sensitive identity and banking information only on Stripe's secure setup page.
Understand the status
- Ready for card payments means Stripe has activated card payments and your storefront can show Pay securely.
- Setup needs attention means Stripe still needs information or is reviewing the account. Follow the notification in the Stripe panel, then refresh the status.
- Card payments reports whether the account can accept new card charges.
- Payouts reports the current payout status. Stripe controls the payout schedule and may request additional information later.
Keep the notification banner clear. Requirements can change after onboarding, and unresolved requirements can restrict payments or payouts.
What customers see
After placing an order, customers see Pay securely when Stripe checkout is ready. Card details are entered on Stripe, not Stovefront. If you also enabled direct payment methods such as Cash App or Venmo, those remain available as alternatives.
Stripe is shown as connected because Stovefront can check account readiness and confirm payments through Stripe. Venmo, Zelle, Cash App, PayPal, and cash are shown as payment instructions supplied by your kitchen; Stovefront cannot verify that those payments arrived.
Stovefront updates the order's payment status from Stripe. Do not hand over an order until its payment status shows paid in Orders or you have independently verified a direct payment.
Refund a Stripe order
Eligible full and partial card refunds can be issued from the order. Canceling an order does not return its payment, and direct payments cannot be refunded through Stovefront.
Follow Cancel or refund an order for eligibility, steps, refund statuses, and the distinction between canceling and returning money.
Manage payments and payouts
After setup is complete, expand Business and bank settings, Payments, or Payouts in the Stripe checkout panel. Use those sections to review Stripe account details, charges, and payout activity.
Use Refund customer in Stovefront for eligible full and partial order refunds so the order and customer history stay synchronized. Stripe remains the place to manage disputes, payout schedules and missing payouts, and business, identity, bank, tax, or account-verification requirements. Stovefront can display or synchronize those Stripe statuses, but it cannot decide a dispute, release a payout, or approve account verification. Stovefront never receives or holds the food-sale funds.
If setup does not become ready
- Read the Stripe notification at the top of the panel.
- Complete every requested item.
- Select Refresh status.
- If Stripe says the account is under review, wait for Stripe's review rather than creating another account.
If Stovefront cannot access the saved account
Select Check the saved connection again first. If the account remains unavailable, Stovefront may offer Archive and reconnect Stripe to the verified kitchen owner.
This recovery archives only Stovefront's local connection record. It does not delete or change the existing account at Stripe. For safety, Stovefront refuses automatic recovery when the kitchen has any Stripe order or connected-account payment history. If recovery is blocked, contact Stovefront support so the existing payment account can be reconciled without disconnecting completed customer payments.
When automatic recovery is available, type RECONNECT STRIPE, confirm the archive, then start secure Stripe setup again.
